Vox Spectrum’s Software Solutions Division had won a tender from a leading oil extracting organization. This company is engaged in exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons in India and is managed from Mumbai. There are 12 main off shore process complexes and 10 company owned drilling rigs operating in the high seas.
The company’s operations at high sea involve a multi-disciplinary activity which needs continuous communication between Base stations, Offshore installations and Supply vessels. Round – the – clock voice and data communication between On shore offices/ Control rooms and Off shore installations are highly essential for the operations in the high seas.
The company has an established integrated Communication system based on different technologies to meet the Voice, Navigational, Aeronautical and IT requirements of Off shore infrastructure.
Vox Spectrum’s scope of work involved supplying, installation, commissioning and maintenance of Voice Recording Systems.
Challenges Encountered:
The Vox team encountered several challenges during the project implementation. Some of them were: - Since 22 installations were offshore and space constraint was a major issue at those offshore sites, the system designing with all the required accessories/ interconnections was a complicated challenge
- Transportation of the hardware and manpower to these installations was aboard helicopters. The Vox team needed to be fully prepared before boarding the flight for each site
- Staff needing to travel to offshore sites, were required to undergo special training such as PST ( Personal Survival Techniques), FPFF (Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting), EFA (Elementary First Aid) and HUET (Helicopter Under Water Escape training)
Star Performers:
P. Ravi, Asst Manager led the installation teams at Mumbai/ Vizag with T. Ramesh topping the list with 15 offshore site installations to his credit! Sharif Ahmed from Macktel, who was trained on Vox systems and had undergone the offshore training, had accompanied Ramesh for 13 of those offshore sites.
Shekar of Vox with Rajesh of Macktel had been to 6 offshore sites and P. Ravi along with Chandramohan had completed the Installation at an offshore site in Vishakapatnam. Most of the onshore installations were completed by P. Rai / Rajesh and One at Hazire (Gujarat) was completed by Ramesh/ Sharif.
